Unity in the Community | |
Information | Updated: 17/09/2011 |
Local residents and the ''Friends of World's End Place'' have organised the ''Unity in the Community'' event to take place on the World's End Piazza and World's End Place on Saturday 17th of September. The ''Unity in the Community" event is intended to engage young people from a broad variety of backgrounds in our local community so that they are able to live more active and fulfilling lives. In the heart of Chelsea, the World's End Place Piazza is positioned between two different worlds: the World's End Estate and some of the most expensive residential property in London. The goal is to bring these two worlds together and make the World's End Piazza a place for the local community to meet and enjoy this not often used part of Chelsea - a place the Council has often written off. The focus of the event is young people. We will be having a book swap stand where children of all ages can swap their books for new ones, face painting, cake and cookie decorating, giant hopscotch games as well as an art exhibition by the local Youth Club. Youth groups such as the Guides, Brownies, Cubs and Scouts will have recruiting stands. There will be live music - two up and coming new acts Mike Jagger of the Not the Rolling Stones will be opening the celebration (ironically Mr. Jagger's place of residence is just around the corner). The event will also celebrate the placing of ten gigantic planters which are being installed on the Piazza to make it more welcoming. Local retailers are sponsoring this event, including Leyland Paints, which is sponsoring the Open Air Community Art Wall with work by Chelsea Youth Club and a simultaneous exhibition in the Chelsea theatre. Shops from the World's End up to the Bluebird restaurant have generously agreed to advertise the event in their shop windows. All the bands/acts and people involved in the event have posted details of the event on their Facebook, YouTube and Twitter pages.
